Exports down 3% in first half of 2023, imports up 2% – CSO
New figures from the Central Statistics Office figures show that the country’s unadjusted exports increased by €1.8 billion to €19.5 billion in June compared with the same time last year.
When seasonally adjusted, exports of goods grew by more than €2.4 billion compared with May, the CSO said.
Today’s figures show that unadjusted imports for June were valued at €12.3 billion, down by €500m on the same time last year.
Seasonally adjusted imports stood at €11.6 billion in June, the CSO said.
Comparing the first half of 2023 with the same time in 2022, exports were down 3% and the value of imports increased by 2%.
Exports for the first six months of 2023 amounted to more than €102 billion, the CSO said.
Today’s figures show that imports from Great Britain fell by 20% to €1.7 billion in June from the same time last year. The noted that the biggest decrease was Chemicals & Related Products imports, which fell by 41%.
Meanwhile, exports to Great Britain grew by 19% to €2.3 billion in June from the same time last year.
The CSO said the EU accounted for €6.708 billion, or 34%, of total goods exports in June3, of which €1.703 billion went to Belgium, €1.335 billion went to Germany and €1.263 billion went to the Netherlands.
The US was the main non-EU destination accounting for €5.696 billion or 29% of total exports in June.
