Fall in number of homes approved for planning permission
The number of homes approved for planning permission fell by 2.5% in the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Central Statistics Office.
The CSO said that in the first quarter of this year 8,177 homes were given the green light by planners compared to 8,387 in the same period a year earlier.
The number of houses granted planning was up 0.8% while the number of apartments was down 7%.
The number of homes in housing estates granted planning was up 2.7%.
There was an annual decrease of 4.5% in the number of one-off houses receiving planning permission.
Houses accounted for 60% of dwellings granted planning while apartments made up the remaining 40%.
