Average weekly earnings up 5.6% to €979.71 in fourth quarter – CSO
Preliminary estimates from the Central Statistics Office for the fourth quarter of last year show that average weekly earnings rose by 5.6% to €979.71 from €927.98 the same time in 2023.
The CSO said that average hourly earnings rose by 6.2% to €30.21 from €28.44.
Over the five years from 2019 to 2024, average hourly earnings went up by 24.7% from €24.23 to €30.21, the CSO noted.
Today’s figures show that average weekly paid hours were 32.4 in the three months from October to December, down 0.6% from 32.6 hours in the same three months in 2023.
The CSO said that average weekly earnings rose across all 13 sectors in the year to the fourth quarter, with the biggest annual increase in average weekly earnings seen in the Information & Communication sector with earnings up 6.6%. The second largest increase of 6.5% was seen in the Education sector.
Meanwhile, average hourly other labour costs rose by 5.8% across all economic sectors to €5.31, the CSO said, while average hourly total labour costs grew by 6.1%.
The sector with the highest average hourly total labour costs was the Information & Communication sector at €59.77, while the lowest average total labour costs were in the Accommodation & Food Service Activities sector, which recorded a rate of €18.66.
