Goods handled by main Irish ports up 1% in Q2
New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that Irish ports handled a total of 13.1 million tonnes of goods in the second quarter of 2022, an increase of 1% compared with the same time last year.
A total of 3,085 vessels arrived in the seven main Irish ports – Bantry, Cork, Drogheda, Dublin, Rosslare, Shannon and Waterford – during the three months from April to June.
This marked an increase of 2% on the same time last year.
The CSO noted that Dublin port accounted for 63% of all vessel arrivals in Irish ports in the three month period.
Goods forwarded from Irish ports amounted to more than 4.2 million tonnes in the second quarter of this year, while a total of 8.9 million tonnes of goods were received.
The CSO said that Great Britain & Northern Ireland accounted for 36% of the total tonnage of goods handled in the main ports in the second quarter.
Other EU countries accounted for 39% of the total tonnage of goods handled in the main ports, it added.
