Numbers set to get PUP down 15,000 this week

The number of people due to receive the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) this week is down 15,776 on last week.

421,373 people will get a total of €125.52m in PUP payments.

A further 183,096 were also on the Live Register at the end of March in receipt of other forms of unemployment assistance.

The largest number of PUP recipients remains in Dublin, where 134,417 people are claiming the payment.

Accommodation and food is the sector with the largest number of
recipients, followed by wholesale and retail trade and construction.

It is expected the number of recipients in the construction industry will however fall sharply next week, as up to 20,000 returned to work on housing and childcare projects following the lifting of restrictions.

7,327 people closed their PUP claims in the last week, with 5,966 of those returning to work.
