Govt report on insurance reforms to be published
A Government report outlining how to reform the assessment of insurance claims, and strengthen consumer protection, will be published this afternoon after consideration by Cabinet.
It is believed the proposals include strategies on how to increase market competition, clamp down on insurance fraud, and re-evaluate the level of awards.
In particular, it will make recommendations to address “duty of care” legislation, which is frequently used as the basis of compensation claims.
The document will be launched by Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, who chaired the Cabinet sub-committee on insurance reform.
Also present is expected to be Minister for Justice Helen McEntee, Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe and Minister of State Sean Fleming.
It will recommend strengthening the Personal Injuries Assessment Bureau and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
The plan is based on recommendations contained in the programme for government.
